SUMMARY:Online Resources for Manufacturers from the Industrial Assessment Center
DESCRIPTION:Webinar Registration – Zoom \nDr. Michael Muller and Thomas Wenning\, Industrial Assessment Center \nThe Industrial Assessment Centers (IAC) can help small and medium sized manufacturers save energy\, improve productivity\, and reduce waste by providing no-cost technical assessments conducted by university based teams of engineering students and faculty. The IAC program has already conducted over 21\,000 assessments and made recommendations that amount to an average yearly savings of nearly $140\,000. Using this large database of assessments\, the IAC has developed numerous online resources that manufactures can utilize to learn more about increasing their own efficiency and lowering their energy costs. From searching the database of assessments by NAICS code\, to watching informative webinars\, to reviewing technical documents the IAC website has a plethora of useful information at your fingertips.

SUMMARY:Fuel For Thought: The Opportunity for Plastics Manufacturers in the Appalachian Region
DESCRIPTION:Fuel For Thought: The Opportunity for Plastics Manufacturers in the Appalachian Region\nSeptember 28\, 2022 – 1:30 – 2:00 PM EST \nLearn about an opportunities for regional plastics manufacturers to expand and build profitability. The availability of shale gas locally has made manufacturing of plastic products that utilize HDPE and LLDPE cheaper in the Appalachian Region. Greater consumer spending is increasing demand for goods that use plastic. Manufacturing activity has risen and supported higher demand for related plastics. Dr. Palanki has researched the costs to manufacture plastic goods in China and Appalachia. The results may surprise you. \nSpeaker\nDr. Srinivas Palanki\, Professor and Chair\, Dept. of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering\, West Virginia University \nDr. Palanki is the professor and chair for the Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at West Virginia University. His research focuses on the application of systems engineering tools to problems in engineering and biology. HIs research group has made theoretical contributions to real-time optimization of finite-time processes\, nonlinear robust control and modeling of nonlinear processes. Experimental applications include implementation of systems engineering tools to a pilot-scale fluidized bed hydrochlorination reactor (Mitsubishi Polysilicon)\, polymerization reactors (Honeywell)\, lab-in-a-chip (Applied Liquid Logic)\, protection against UV-induced skin carcinogenesis (Mitchell Cancer Institute)\, improvement in baffle-making process (Metalforms)\, and optimization of methanol production (Natgasoline). \nThere is no cost for this event. However to receive webinar access\, registration is required.

SUMMARY:Fuel for Thought: Methanol Process & Uses
DESCRIPTION:Fuel for Thought: Methanol Process & Uses\nFebruary 17\, 2022\n11:30 AM – 12:30 PM \nMethanol provides the basis for a wide range of products used in almost all areas of modern life. It is one of the most basic chemicals in the petrochemical industry and can be used in many different applications. \nNot only does methanol play a major role in the chemical industry and petrochemicals\, it has also become an indispensable energy source. Methanol is used in the energy sector in its pure form or mixed with other fuels. It is also employed in producing fuels. \nProfessor Palanki\, Chair of the Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at West Virginia University\, will discuss the process of manufacturing methanol and the downstream uses and applications. Learn more about Professor Palanki. \nMake sure to join us for this informative discussion and learn about the growing opportunities in this market. \n  \nSpeakers\nSrinivas Palanki\nChairperson\, Professor – Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering @West Virginia University \nSrinivas Palanki joined WVU in 2021. Prior to WVU\, Palanki was at Lamar Univ. from 2015-2021 as dean of engineering & associate provost for research. Prior to that\, he was chair of the Dept. of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at the Univ. of South Alabama from 2007-2015. He started his academic career at Florida State Univ. where he went through the ranks of assistant\, associate & full professor from 1992-2006. His research focuses on the application of systems engineering tools to problems in engineering & biology. HIs research group has made theoretical contributions to real-time optimization of finite-time processes\, nonlinear robust control and modeling of nonlinear processes. Experimental applications include implementation of systems engineering tools to a pilot-scale fluidized bed hydrochlorination reactor\, polymerization reactors\, lab-in-a-chip\, protection against UV-induced skin carcinogenesis\, improvement in baffle- making process\, & optimization of methanol production.\n\nRegister Now
