SHALE INSIGHT 2022: Some Highlights
August – September 2022
The Marcellus Shale Coalition hosted the 12th annual SHALE INSIGHT Conference from September 27th to 29th. Local Shale POWER representatives and regional manufacturers were in attendance. This article will share some highlights of this impressive conference and include thoughts from some regional manufacturing companies that attended.
For more than two days, Shale Insight 2022 was filled with networking, presentations, breakout sessions, exhibits and more. It may be overwhelming to a first-time attendee, but the schedule is laid out well to allow each person to participate in the opportunities that align to their interests.
Observations from Appalachia’s Energy Leaders: CEOs and executives operating in the Marcellus and Utica Shale basin shared their visions for the future of the industry, our region, the nation, and internationally. These presentations provided a great perspective of the industry and the most important current topics.
Technical Breakout Sessions: Experts from across the natural gas value chain shared best practices and led panel discussions on a variety of issues pertaining to the sector. Tackling methane emissions, sequestering carbon, and developing hydrogen – in addition to constructing and operating the associated infrastructure – are a few of the many topics that were covered in-depth throughout the conference.
Exhibit Hall: The hall was filled with companies showcasing products and services that are supporting the industry’s current operations and future advances. Experts in their respective fields staffed nearly 60 exhibits and were on hand to discuss business opportunities.
Technology Showcase: This session was an opportunity for developers of emerging technologies to introduce new innovations to the natural gas industry and its service providers. Selected from a competitive field of entries by the MSC Research Collaborative, the Technology Showcase featured seven early-stage technologies.
Networking Opportunities: Networking opportunities were built into the schedule to allow attendees to get the most of their break time. Evening receptions were well-attended and extended into business development dinners and social events hosted by member companies. These gatherings provided access to industry leaders and innovators and allowed connections to be made among participants.
What Did Manufacturing Attendees Think?
ShalePOWER had representatives at the conference serving multiple roles such as introducing manufacturers to industry decision-makers, identifying additional opportunities for regional manufacturers, and further promoting the region’s manufacturers and Catalyst’s role in their success.
Feedback from some of the ShalePOWER companies who attended the conference was positive:
Donna Chappel, President of Advanced Integration Group, Inc., shared her thoughts as a first-time attendee,
“It is very informative. I learned a lot about the shale industry and how it can lead to our energy independence. I met a lot of companies at the exhibit hall that have very state of the art technologies. The Technology showcase highlighted some of these and I am glad I attended this session.”
Matthew Thiel, President of AUMA Actuators, Inc., was an attendee and presented at the Technology Showcase,
“As a local manufacturer, I found that the Shale Insight Conference was extremely well organized, attended, and the speakers were excellent. The conference shed insight into the challenges facing operators in our local area, both near and far term. This helps manufacturers to develop new solutions to help the industry move forward with emission reductions, improved efficiencies, and safer workplaces.”
Ben Cope, Oil & Gas Business Development Manager at Conspec-Controls, Inc., also presented at the Technology Showcase,
“Conspec saw the Shale Insight Conference as a huge opportunity to launch our newest safety product. Presenting in the Technology Showcase provided attendees a snapshot of our newest solution and drove a fair amount of traffic to our booth exhibit. Conspec will certainly be back in 2023!”
