Partner Spotlight: Belmont College

September – October 2021

Belmont College, located in St. Clairsville, Ohio, is an educational partner of the Shale POWER initiative that provides on-site and online classes for a variety of programs that support the manufacturing and energy economy including Business; Information Technology; Engineering Technology; Industrial Trades; and Public Safety. The College also offers the Associate of Arts and Associate of Science programs, which constitute the first two years of a bachelor’s degree. Belmont College serves as an educational anchor for Shale POWER and has hosted the Entering the Shale Industry for Manufacturers workshop on their campus. Dr. Jeremy Vittek, Provost, serves on the Shale POWER Advisory Council.

Through the Workforce Development and Community Education Department, Belmont College develops training in customer specific areas to help businesses maximize their productivity and profit. The mission of Belmont’s Workforce Development and Community Education Department is to provide educational opportunities that maximize workforce performance, career development, and self-enrichment. The College’s Energy Institute provides training in the production, conservation, and utilization of energy.

As the energy industry has steadily increased its activity in East-Central Ohio, Belmont College was quick to develop several short-term programs that would prepare students for jobs in the energy field through the Truck Driving Academy and Energy Institute. Further, because energy efficiency is a concern world-wide, Belmont’s Associate of Applied Science Degree in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) as well as its certificate program in HVAC Technology ensure students learn the basics of geothermal, solar, and smart technologies along with traditional HVAC technologies. Belmont College has recently created new space and installed new equipment, so HVAC students graduate well-prepared to install, repair and maintain these systems.
