Fuel for Thought – Methanol: Production Process & Downstream Uses
By Srinivas Palanki – February 17, 2022
Professor Palanki, Chair of the Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at West Virginia University, discusses the process of manufacturing methanol and the downstream uses and applications.
Methanol provides the basis for a wide range of products used in almost all areas of modern life. It is one of the most basic chemicals in the petrochemical industry and can be used in many different applications. Not only does methanol play a major role in the chemical industry and petrochemicals, it has also become an indispensable energy source. Methanol is used in the energy sector in its pure form or mixed with other fuels. It is also employed in producing fuels.
