In 1959, Charles Cyphert Sr. and his brother Glenn started Charter Engineering. Charter Engineering served as an underground mining equipment rebuild shop. Being one of the first rebuild shops in the United States, Charter Engineering grew with the booming coal industry. In 1972, Charles, along with his sons, transformed Charter Engineering into Progressive Industries. Progressive Industries, a 52,000 square foot facility, specialized in rebuilding underground mining equipment. We have since diversified our business. In 2015 Precision Tool was added to meet all of your manufacturing and machining needs. Precision Tool’s Quality Management System is certified to ISO 9001:2015 by Smithers Quality Assessments. In 2018, Phoenix Trucking was added to our family of companies, providing dump truck hauling. Both of these local businesses were founded on the same values that have helped Progressive Industries become an industry leader.

We produce components for the automotive, pharmaceutical, specialty fastener, defense, aerospace, oil and gas, electronics, and coal industries. From rapid prototyping to drilling and tapping, we produce everything from bushings to custom parts for engines and bolts for oil rigs using machining materials such as aluminum, all plastics, carbon steel, brass, and many other alloys.
